When You See the First Fish of the Day, 04/02/24, #15

This illustration captures the response to seeing the first tarpon or redfish of the day. Austin Powers is a great example of this because he is over the top excited when he sees a lady that he likes. He goes right up to her and starts flirting. This is much like the process of fishing.

The first tarpon of the day rolls right in front of the skiff, and you get that feeling of pure excitement and anticipation. You ease on up and get some casts at the next rolling tarpon- so your flirt with them with your fly and sometimes you get hooked up and sometimes you don't.

That's the same feeling with tailing redfish as well. It always seems to be extra quiet the second before you see the first tail. Almost like you are willing it to happen.

These are the best moments.

Thanks for reading the inspiration behind this illustration.
